as donald trump looks to e tend -- extend his lead. >> our coverage begins with political reporter dave evans in midtown. >> reporter: both bernie sanders and hillary clinton in the city making one final push before we go and note vote in the new york primary tomorrow. hillary crisscrossed the city today visiting a hospital unionized car wash, and a chinese restaurant. a push for equal pay and paid family leave and women's right to an abortion. she said both sanders and donald trump have fallen far short on this issue of choice. >> and when trump said what he said about punishing women, i was appalled. that is a core issue and when my opponent in this primary said it was a distraction that he wanted to talk about the

richard acktel have been placed on light weight duty. it comes after a brooklyn businessman was arrested accused of selling dozens of gun permits and licenses. we'll have much more on the investigation coming up at 5:00. a store owner is already back at work today despite being shot twice during a violent robbery will in brooklyn. the two suspects holding up the store in east new york, one of them had a gun. nashani said was behind the register and when one of the suspects came around the counter to grab the cash, said grabbed the gun, wrestled the gunman and was shot in the process. >> he was taking my money. that wasn't my time. when it's my time, it's my time. >> said chased the men from the store. a $2500 reward is being offered for any information. the nypd searching for a

camera firing a gun on the streets in brooklyn. he fired five rounds. fort that litho one was -- fortunately no, no one was hurt in the shooting. nypd says officers took 53- year-old william william smith into custody. investigators tell us he tried to rob 43-year-old manuel vera before he turned violent. the driver did get 25 stitches. he is expected to be okay. police say smith might be responsible for killing a man in a homeless shelter on east 30th street. an american has been confirmed dead this afternoon. the death toll from saturday's quake has grown to 350 and nows

through the vast amount of rubble searching for survivors. eyewitness news reporter joe torres is in wood size queens. many are desperately trying to locate their loved ones. >> we have seen this happen with other natural disasters. thank goodness for social media. that has been the best communication. there has been very little information coming out of the council general's office in queens as well as the one in manhattan. that has impacted the relief and response from so many of those anxious to lend a helping hand. now this earthquake devastated the central coast of ecuador. we're talking communities and cities. roads buckled, buildings and bridges collapsed. lines of communication they were knocked out. you heard the number as to who died, how many and the injured as well.

started to arrive from mexico and chile and cuba. here at home local and state assistance is ready to roll but not in authorities in ecuador make a request and provide specifics. >> many are calling to find out what they can do to help in this relief effort. whether it's donating food, water, clothing and i think that is where we are basically waiting to get information from the council general's office and the ecuadorian government. >> reporter: along with the mayor's office and governors office the first ecuadorian elected official in the united states told us he's been chatting with cardinal dolan. they are woking together to try to arrange for a vigil later this week to honor and lift up the earthquake victims. coming up at 5:30, you will hear from some of the local

community and how they are desperately trying to get relief back home. that is at 5:30. live at wood side joe torres eyewitness news. >> thank you. u.s. air lifts are delivering aid to a remote area of southern japan after two powerful earthquakes happened there. the flights delivered water, bread, ready to eat food and other emergency supplies. japan's prime minister says the searcher survivors is a race against the clock because of the threat to landslides. now to the latest on the zika virus. mosquito season is just around the corner. city officials want to make sure residents are protected. mayor de blasio announced a three year plan to combat the virus. the plan includes enhanced mosquito surveillance and control. and there will will be expanded human testing in the care management program for women. >> this is an emerging

new information keeps coming out. that is why we have to have our own capacity to assess the situation and to make sure we have all the latest information to protect people. >> meanwhile in washington, the white house putting pressure on senate republicans to vote on president obama's request for $1.9 billion in funding to combat the virus. liz. verizon workers took to the streets to protest. this is the sixth day. 40,000 workers are protesting verizon's plan to move jobs offshore and cut benefits. be they have been without a contract since last august. verizon has hired nows of nonunion workers to replace those on strike. stocks in wall street getting a healthy boost. energy stocks led the broad rally. investors largely ignored news that major oil producing nations failed to hammer out a deal throughout the weekend.

the dow climbed almost 107 points to end the day just over 18,000. 18,004. an average sunday in the park turns into a frightening one for a group of children. a man tried to lure children into his car. >> reporter jumps into help when a driver starts sinking as cameras were rolling live. you will hear from that reporter coming up. >> that is no joke. a taste of summer out here on the west side. it's beautiful. and it's also a little hot. this is our first 80-degree day of the season in new york city. it won't last though. here's your signal if you are traveling out and about tonight. a little warm for a run.

we have new video of a bus in israel engulfed in flames where the explosion that ignited it was a terror attack. this is video shows the flames and large plumes of smoke billowing from the bus in the heart of jerusalem. the explosion injured 21 people. so far there have been no claims or responsibility. amazing stories of success and perseverance from the boston marathon. perhaps the biggest victories are patrick downs and adrian hazlet crossing the marathon.

losing their legs in the bombing attacks. record rainfall has caused flooding across texas from houston to dallas and beyond. the high water forced emergency crews to evacuate homes in parker county. boats were launched to find and rescue some residents from their homes. homes and highways are under water. nows of customers have no electricity and so far one body has been found in a submerged vehicle but the cause of the death is still unknown. no other deaths have been reported so far. flooding in the houston area made for dramatic moments on live tv this morning. >> you've got to get out. it's the wind. swim. swim. leave the car, swim. >> went down quick. the voice you hear steve campio. he got in the water to help the man who you could tell was in shock over the entire ordeal.

about the historic flooding that happened in the city when out of nowhere he drove the car into the flooded area. he said at best he was in a state of shock. he said he didn't realize how deep the water was and as you saw from that video, his face says it all. he was panicked in the moments. a lot of people around the city would have done the exact same thing. i mean the guy panicked so we're just glad he is okay. >> we talked to him this morning. you can see the gentleman in the water was disoriented and what is interesting i said to steve what kind of reaction have you been get something and you heard a little bit in his response. you get a lot of flooding here. and it's not uncommon people helping people out. that guy never expected it to be that deep. >> thank goodness he was there he was so calm and it seemed to obvious as you watch it sure i

a little bit of a haze in central park that hit 80 degrees today. we are now at 81 and it's our first 80-degree day since last september. look at that humidity it is desert dry outside. that is okay when you have a calm wind but it's not when you have a gusty breeze and the vegetation that is coming in and we have fire danger starting tomorrow. we are 19 degrees above average. we are 15 degrees away from a record high. the first 80 degrees since september 29th. we are in our fifth dry day. now that is no mistake. look at hampton bay at 60 degrees. shifting wind off the 50-degree water. it's calm closer to american. rose lin still able to get the upper 70s. look at the inland numbers going to the upper 80s. these dew points measure the amount of moisture in the air. when you see 20's and 30's that

when you get the wind to gust out of the northeast tomorrow 15-25, you will have a fire danger. so fire weather watch is out for tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening with a low humidity and higher temperatures. 71 at 7:00 as the wind turns off the water here the south wind picks up. even though it feels warm this afternoon. take the spring jacket out tonight. the coolness will come in quickly because of the dryness of the air. 60 by midnight. 56 tomorrow morning. upper 40's in many suburbs. but then the north, northwest wind picks up. you will have a fair amount of clouds early on tomorrow. and then more sunshine as the day wears on. and we'll be running in the 60's to around 70. satellite is basically quiet. there is a couple patchy clouds in the east end. that is part of the back door flood or a front that is collapsing down toward the area. there is a little bit of snow with that front. it just gives you an idea of the cooler air coming in. watch how this front

look at boston at 52. so look what happens. the cooler breeze comes in tomorrow but we will still make a run at 70. it's clouds giving way to partly sunny skies. the breeze will slowly go away. and on wednesday we get our eighth straight dry day with a fair amount of sunshine. that is given we don't measure any rainfall tomorrow with a couple sprinkles north and east. i'm forecasting a mainly dry situation. the storm on the left hand side of your screen there, that will come in later thursday night and into the day on friday. that should be our next chance of rain. lyes tonight some upper 40's in the coldest spots otherwise nice night. and highs tomorrow in the 60's to around 70. noticeably cooler than we had today. clouds mixing with sun. and also cooler breeze. more of a typical spring day. clear to partly cloudy skies 56. the early clouds giving way to

of brookdale park at this point as a larger law enforcement presence. especially when they try to figure out if they have a predator to worry about. they are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. the sheriffs department being proactive set up these temporary cameras at the entrances to brookdale park. this is after the five kids said yesterday man said he was a cop and threatened to throw one of the kids in a van. this happened sunday around 5:30 in the evening. >> you've got to watch your kids, really. some people just let them ride around. you know. without supervision. i would never do that. >> reporter: bloomfield police describe the person as man in his 50's, stalky. less than 24 hours later they posted the cameras, set up patrols, both sheriffs offices

possible bias crime in brooklyn. orthodox jewish man was cleaning out his car when a suspect approached him and threw an unknown liquid hit at his legs. the suspect yelled an antisemitic comment before taking off. police are look for that man. a man is under arrest for dui following a crash that killed a pedestrian. are police say that jose giatan was under the influence while driving in huntington station last night. he hit the victim lucas reyes who was running across east 12th street. he was charged with dwi and arraignment was set for today. nypd is working on finding a man that was identified as a travel agent and ripping off a woman. he promised to provide travel and hotel accommodations to the dominican republic. the victim was taken for more han $6,000.

camille cosby will face more questions today. this is her second set of testimony. a judge has banned any question about camille cosby's own sexual conduct. a teenager from connecticut who made headlines when she was forced by the courts to under go chemo therapy says a new mass has been found in her lungs. she is moving forward with alternative treatments.

under going five months of forced chemo for hodgkins lymphoma. she is now legally able to make her own treatment decisions. the first person in the world to receive a face transplant is speaking out for the first time in nearly five years. mitchell hunter was badly burned after rescuing a woman from a car accident in 2001. the former soldier had facial work but said it made life difficult and led to depression. that wasn't until 2011 when he became one of the first people to be given a new face by a donor. now he has a full-time job, a beard, and he is able to take his son to the movies without drawing unwanted attention. >> feel just as healthy as i did when he was 21. i would like to tell people, not worry about small things. live life. tell the people you love you love them. you never know when that can be taken away. >> mitchell's medical treatments are not over.

drone collision with a passenger plane. the flight from geneva was landing when the pilot reported striking something. the plane did not suffer any severe damage but the incident is raising issues of where drones are flying. experts say if a drone hits a plane engine just right, it could be catastrophic. here in the u.s. the faa bans drones from being flown within five miles of an airport. a difficult day to say the least for nows of students who thought they were accepted into college only to learn it was a computer glitch. they sent out acceptance e- mails to 5,000 students. but the students were on a list of applications who had not been fully reviewed yet. after a few hours a correction e-mail was sent out. the school says the students are still being considered for acceptance.

it feels hot. there is not much wind in the city. wind variable at 6 miles per hour. as it turns on shore the numbers will drop a little bit. the fire weather watch for tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow evening because we are going to have gusty breezes out of the north, northwest. we will have the low humidity and temperatures around 70 degrees. while the landscape looks different and the leaves are coming in, it's not enough yet. during the evening hours notice how the winds turn over to southeast and by 8:00, i mean we are a good 15 degrees cooler than right now. it feels a lot different especially with the dryness of the air. make shoe you have a spring jacket out this evening especially near the coastline where the numbers will drop off quickly. so the very warm air starts to get suppressed tomorrow. cooler air comes in from the north. i mean it's not cold, but it's back closer to average. it should feel great. look at tomorrow morning. clouds. a little bit of sun. i think clouds are dominating.

>> it is located in columbus circle. lauren glassberg has more. >> you can hop on any number of subway trains or you can now spend time shopping and eating. >> i think of it as main street. >> reporter: developer susan sign created turn style, a subterranean marketplace. she was also behind the food and shopping experience at grand central terminal 20 years ago. this newest endeavor is in a 27,000 square foot stretch that the mta let linger. she saw the possibilities. >> maybe part of what we're doing is changing your perception of the subway station, that this can become part of the customer experience. this will be a destination in and of itself. >> reporter: she spoke with more than 400 business owners to fill the spaces. there are seven small kiosks, 13 shops and nearly 20 eateries like elery's greens. >> here at columbus circle what we're really attracted to is the mix of residents, businesses, and international travelers. >> reporter: as many as 90,000 commuters pass through here
